The beautiful deep red paint and ultra-straight body of Danny Aguirre’s ’94 Supra pulled us in but it was the well-organized and spotless bay that kept our attention last year and again at Wekfest L.A. Armed with a 74mm snail that’s good for upwards of 1,000-plus hp on a race tune, this MkIV is the perfect mix of clean and timeless combined with nasty power.
Even if you’re an avid anti-LS proponent, you can’t deny this immaculate build from the BC Forged NA booth. The exterior is aggressive with flared fenders that house 18×10.5/12.0 BC wheels wrapped in Toyo R888s, and all of that rubber is needed to harness the twin turbo LS swap that is absolutely littered with clever details. This is our pick of the show and apparently Wekfest judges agreed, granting it Best Mazda and Best Craftsmanship awards – both of which were well deserved.
Migel Armas’ 1972 240Z should probably be considered a resto-mod, but when you see what the car looked like prior to his massaging, you quickly realize that leans more toward restoration than modified. Slammed on a one-off AirRunner suspension backed by a full array of Energy Suspension bushings, the Blood Orange classic tucks a set of 15-inch Enkei wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes. No bulky flares or massive rear wing – instead this Z sports a BRE front lip and trunk spoiler with little else to disturb the ’70s feel. We weren’t the only ones impressed, as Migel took home the Best Nostalgic Award from the Wekfest staff.
Honda’s iconic flagship can be cooked up a number of ways. Some opt for big and flashy, others for aggressive and track ready. Robert’s NSX, however, stood out with its absolute simplicity. Lowered on classic bronze Mugen MF10 wheels and sporting a healthy yet not overdone drop, fans couldn’t help but stop to get a closer look throughout the day, and that included us.
Chris Ortez was well known for building an incredibly detailed 2003 G35 a few years back, which we featured. Since that time he’s moved on to a new project in this MkIV Supra. No, this build won’t be breaking any dyno records, but instead Chris is focusing on making mild, well thought out upgrades that maintain the heart soul of this ’90s icon. The fit and finish of the car couldn’t possibly be any better, and if you look hard enough, you’ll spot some real gems from the likes of ARC and Amuse.
