Short Track Races This Weekend (7/29-31)


The 2016 race season has reached the end of one of its busiest months. Point battles are heating up and seasons are winding down. This weekend could prove critical for several racers who are chasing points in the standings.

Here are some of the events we found for the weekend:

Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions – After wins from visiting Christopher Bell and Rico Abreu last weekend, it’s time to say hello to the famed Pennsylvania Posse. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions holds a triple-header weekend in PA with stops at Eriez Speedway Friday, Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway Saturday, and Tri-City Raceway Park on Sunday. Chad Kemenah has been able to maintain his point lead over Dale Blaney. It sits at 58 points heading into the weekend. www.allstarsprint.com

American Sprint Car Series – The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series is slowly working its way back east after a mid-summer stay in Washington, Montana, and South Dakota. Badlands Motor Speedway in Brandon, SD plays host to the final stop of the tour on Sunday. The event pays $10,000 to the winner. Johnny Herrera has been making up ground on point leader Sam Hafertepe Jr. with two wins and a Third Place finish in the last three events. Hafertepe’s lead is 124 points. www.ascsracing.com

Big 8 Late Model Series – The Midwestern-based series has its first of two races in five days Friday night at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI. The series competes in support of Saturday night’s Detjens Memorial. On Tuesday Big 8 heads to Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna to be part of the Dixieland with the ARCA Midwest Tour. Defending series Champion Michael Bilderback boasts an 87-point lead over former Champion Jeremy Miller. www.big8series.com

Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series – The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series moves west this weekend for a pair of races in Indiana. The Sprinters will visit Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon on Friday and Lawrenceburg for the Soudrette Memorial on Saturday. Shawn Westerfield is the man to beat in B.O.S.S. He holds a 140-point lead over Justin Owen. www.buckeyesprints.com

CARS Tour – Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC plays host to the Summer Showdown for the CARS Racing Tour this Saturday. The Super Late Models and Late Model Stocks will compete in 125-lap features. CARS competitors have had some time to prepare with the last event taking place on June 25 at Greenville-Pickens. Tommy Lemmons Jr. (LM Stock) and Matt Craig (SLM) won those events. Deac McCaskill leads Josh Berry by seven points in the Late Model Stocks. Raphael Lessard leads the SLM standings by eight points over Brandon Setzer. www.carsracingtour.com

Empire Super Sprint Series – The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint Series have a pair of non-point races on the schedule for this weekend in Pennsylvania. The Series will support the 360 National Open at Williams Grove on Friday and the Mach 1 360 National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday. On Sunday the series heads back to New York for a stop at Utica-Rome for the Cole Cup. Show-up points are on the line for Sunday’s race. The Empire Sprinters will be point racing again next weekend. International Super Modified Association – The Hy-miler Nationals are on the schedule for the International Super Modified Association this weekend at Sandusky (OH) Speedway. The Fast 40 takes place Friday night and the 100-lap main event takes place on Saturday. Midwest Truck Series – The Midwest Truck Series makes its fourth stop of the season at Madison (WI) International Speedway Friday night. The series has seen three different winners at the half-mile, including point leader Chester Ace. Ace is coming off a win at the Slinger Nationals last Tuesday and holds a 16-point lead over Dave Edwards, who won the most recent MWT race at Madison in June. www.midwesttruckseries.com

NASCAR K&N Pro Series – East meets West at Iowa Speedway on Friday for the annual combined event of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. Justin Haley, who has two wins this season, holds a 40-point lead atop the series standings over Kyle Benjamin in the East. Ryan Partridge sits three points ahead of three-time race winner Todd Gilliland in the West. The combined series made two stops at Iowa last year. William Byron and Jesse Little won those events for the East while Brandon McReynolds took both for the West. Hometracks.nascar.com

Pro All Stars Series – The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North is back in action at Oxford (ME) Plains Speedway this Saturday. Rain forced the postponement of last weekend’s race at White Mountain Motorsports Park in New Hampshire. The combined event with the American Candian Tour took place Sunday and was won by Joey Polewarczyk. DJ Shaw continues to hold the series point lead over Mike Hopkins by 26 markers. World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series – The famous Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury (IL) American Legion Speedway takes place with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series this weekend. Preliminaries take place Friday with the main event on Saturday. As a prelude to the event the series visited Quincy Raceways on Thursday. Shane Clanton won his sixth race of the season, allowing him to close the gap slightly on point leader Josh Richards. However, Clanton still trails by 208 points. www.woolms.com

World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series – Earlier this week the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series crossed the border into Ontario which resulted in Donny Schatz’s 16th win of the season. The series returns to the USA this weekend for stops at Hartford (MI) Speedway Friday, and Wilmot (WI) Raceway Saturday. Schatz has been padding his point lead over the last few weeks and now holds a 245-point advantage over Daryn Pittman. www.woosprint.com
